“The Uses Of Sorrow"
'I don't know where I am but I know how to get here.'
August 2015, Merciers Institute, James Hospital, Dublin.
I took this photograph of my mother five weeks and two days before she passed away.
I would find her each day, sitting in the same room, at the same table on the same chair, staring at the same view. The one most familiar to her. I used wondered what she was thinking about during these long lonely vigils. When I asked her she would smile to herself and turned away. Inscrutible as ever.
